[She settles down on a nearby flat rock, curling her legs beneath her, and inviting Bruce to sit as well.]

[Well Bruce supposes this might be a long talk, so he accepts her offer and settles in beside her, hands in his lap.]

Why exactly did the elves kidnap us? I would have asked them, but they didn't really seem like they were keen to explain themselves.

I am not sure of the exact reasons. I still have to confer with the other mages. [She frowns lightly.]

Your kidnappers were very skilled soldiers. But the elves of Silverglen are refugees, peaceful in nature. They have no alternative, no real standing militia like the other village.

I believe the Sin'thalas elves perceived the attention given to Silverglen as an intrusion and attacked accordingly, both to send a message and to protect their own.

[Bruce listens to the explanation, nodding quietly with each word. In a way, it makes sense - they were people who appeared out of nowhere one day, and clearly that had to upset the natives.]

Still, they had to know that we were affiliated with you and your kind. [It's pretty much the only reason why they could get anywhere in the first place.] Unless that is one of the causes of the mistrust, besides our sudden appearance.

That...

[Her eyes shift downward.]

That could be the cause, I suppose. We knew it was a risk, and that was why we urge the dragonsworn not to stray too far, or without protection.

[Ah. Well then.

This is... not what he had been expecting.]

So your kind and the elves are not on good terms? [Well, okay, that's kind of a dumb question. Time to clarify.] How bad are the hostilities?

... Some time before we called for your aid, the leader of the Black Dragonflight, Deathwing, betrayed us. He suggested we make a weapon capable of defeating the demons, so we all gave it a bit of our essence. Then, when it came to his turn, he tricked us and took the artifact for himself.

He turned it on everyone else, demon and dragon alike. The elves were fighting the demons as well. I am afraid some of them were caught in the crossfire.

[That... most certainly did sound good. And well. Bruce can kind of relate. Super powerful weapon that was abused by power hungry individuals? Yeah, he knows those types very well.]

So they blame your kind, in general, for the loss of their own. [And thus, the hostilities.]

It was our fault, however incidental. The black dragonflight thrives on chaos, as you may have discovered.

[She doesn't sound angry, at least.]

They will receive their share in time. The Burning Legion is still the greater threat.

[Bruce nods quietly. He doesn't really know much of the black dragonflight, but well. There's a black (ha) sheep in every group, he supposes. The dragons are just more... obvious about it, in a sense.]

How long has the invasion of the Burning Legion been going on?

I cannot say for sure when it began-- we were very busy with our own duties at that time-- but this has been the state of affairs for at least two seasons.

Did the weapon Deathwing create at least help you gain an advantage? [Even despite the price it cost, of which Bruce still feels bad for even though he had no part in it at all. But the mere thought is... well, its horrible.]

Perhaps, had it not been taken and used for his own ends. I do not know if he still possesses it.

[Nozdormu is not very happy about that. He wants to catalog it and keep it out of his insane brother's claws. But mostly catalog it.]

If he still does have it, then it should beget the question of why he isn't using it again.

[Though, of course, Bruce supposes he can't make any claims. It's not as if he knows how the dragons are, or anything that happened to them beyond what he's been told and heard - which isn't a lot, honestly. This is pretty much the most he's heard so far.]

If he has lost it, he would not broadcast such a loss of power openly; the threat may be all that he retains, or there could be consequences to his use of it. We cannot be sure, and we cannot truly know until we have it for ourselves.

And there have been attempts to try and discover the truth, I assume.

[...but again, who knows how the dragons operate. They're kind of hard to read at times.]

Surion is not so willing to part with such secrets. He only assures the rest of us that he has every intention of cooperating against the larger threat.

[She does not seem happy about this, but she is ever-patient.]

You could try befriending a blacksworn, I suppose, if you felt like taking the risk. But it is risky. Uniting against a common threat does not erase what Deathwing has done.

Of course.

[Bruce understands that very well, really. No matter what good deeds you do, it'll never erase or change the harm you've already wrought upon other people.]

Regardless, as you've said: this weapon is a dangerous thing, and in--Deathwing's hands he could attempt the same thing again, should the situation present itself. It would be wise to try and prevent that.

Yes. To that end, we have been watching him as closely as we can. Time will tell if he has truly lost it.

[There is a heavy note to that. 'Time.']

When we have discovered its location, we will hasten to keep it from his hands.

[Well, they are all under the dude who controls time, so... not that Bruce exactly knows the full extent of what to make of it. It's still quite a bit to wrap around his head.]

So the best course of action is to wait? [Not that... Bruce minds waiting, but for this maybe waiting isn't the best option here. Possibly.]

We have no choice. Doing otherwise would incite a war, and we cannot afford that right now. Our numbers are not so great that we can survive open hostility between the flights and the demons.

It's still a pretty dangerous thing to do. [Not that Bruce can blame them. But he still kind of feels like he has to point it out.]

It is dangerous either way. I would prefer great risks be taken by us dragons, rather than curious dragonsworn.

[Her smile is... sad.]

If there is open danger from inside the flights, we will protect you at any cost. Do not hesitate to flee to the sanctum if you feel threatened in any way.

[Well, that is kind of reassuring to hear. Bruce inclines his head in gratitude, nodding slightly.]

I'm certain you all have lost much too. It wouldn't be wise to lose even more, as you've mentioned earlier.

Yes, but you— you must return home, when the end of this war comes to pass. Though we are as kin, I recognize that you must leave us like children leave the nest.

[She bows her head.]

For dragons, this world is all we have. Our duty may be very grave, but we are glad to die for it, as we have— and will.
